Winning the €15,000-added level 4 non pro division with a score of 222 was the go-round winner Manuel Cortesi aboard his PC Sliderina For Me (Dualin For Mex X The Slide Surprise by ARC Sparkle Surprise). “My mare was great both in the go-round and in the finals this evening. She has a heart of gold,” said Manuel about the horse bred by the Cortesi family.
Reserve honors in the level 4 non pro division, with a score of 220.5, went to Manuel Bonzano of Italy riding the 6-year-old stallion Custom Slidetracks (Custom Crome x Dry Doc Bobbie by Dry Doc Bob) owned by 23 Quarter Horses Az. Agr.
The €9,000-added level 3 non pro championship, with a score of 216, went to Edoardo Bernardelli riding his own Missin The Whiz (Conquistador Whiz x Missin The Reys by Dual Rey). “I was really emotional about showing my mare tonight, but now that it’s over. I’m really happy because she did so well for me.” It was a pretty special day for the young Italian rider as he also claimed reserve honors in both the level 2 and level 1 non pro divisions!
Second place honors in the level 3 went to Rebecca Jensen of Denmark. Riding her 7-year-old gelding Whiz Be San Badger, an own son of Who Whiz It and out of Goodlookenandeasy (by Haidas San Badger), Rebecca scored a 215.
Winning both the €3,000-added level 2 non pro division and €1,500-added level 1 non pro division with a score of 219 was 18-year-old Julia Gaupmann of Austria aboard Cody Rooster Delmaso. Julia talked about her 7-year-old stallion by Ricochet Rooster and out of Made Of Lacy (by Topsail Cody), “This is my first special event win and I am so excited! I loved the run in pattern this evening and I am so proud of him.” With her mount, Gaupmann won the NRHA European Affiliate Limited Non Pro Championship this year and before that, Cody Rooster Delmaso earned the Level 4 Open Reserve Championship at the 2009 Austrian Reining Horse 4-Year-Old Derby with Klaus Lechner.
Presenting the awards with Italian Reining Horse Association (ItRHA) and NRHA European Council President Roberto Cuoghi was Mrs. Antonella Dallari, the newly elected Italian Equestrian Sports Federation President who made her way to Manerbio especially for the NRHA European Non Pro Derby finals.
The Derby is open to 4-5-6- and 7-year-old horses and is run in a go-round and clean-slate finals. The Open Derby finals will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The €1,875-added Open saw a tie for first place with matching scores of 221.5: Gennaro Lendi riding RR Hi Ho Star (RR Star x Peppy Rey Holly by Peppy Rey Lena) for owner Katarzyna Roleski and Franco Bertolani riding Thechexkeepmestylin (Nu Chex To Cash x UB Stylin With Me by Lean With Me) for owner Bevilacqua Soc. Agr.
Gildo Mercuri took home first place honors in the €800-added Intermediate Non Pro aboard his ARC Lone Pine Dun It (Playing It Out x Lonesome Sally Lena by Doc Olena) after scoring a 218.5. Second place, with a score of 207.5, went to Luca Dambrosio riding Peseta Too Jac (Que Peseta x Miss Sonsitive Too by Mr Jac Too) owned by Sara Barone
Scoring a 211, Monica Besomi won the €400-added Limited Non Pro aboard AFM Olena Smart (Spat Olena x Belena Regina by Mr Gold Olena).
